Typical tuscan cakes and biscuits
|
|
In Tuscany a cake has always been considered a celebration, a party, and as a matter of fact, at the end of an important meal, in case of a festivity or a popular celebration a cake cannot be missed, usually matched with a generous glass of “vinsanto”.
Every part of Tuscany has its typical sweets: famous are the Ricciarelli, Panforte and Cavallucci di Siena, which are usually eaten during Christmas time, the Quaresimali and Buccellato di Lucca, which are typical of Lenten time.
In Easter time usually you can find “stiacciate” Livornese style, doughnuts, and cakes manufactured wth eggs and many natural ingredients (spelt, rice, ecc.).
Famous are also the fried “cenci” typical of Carnival time.
Probably less known but anyway quite widespread are those products made up of chestnut like the typical chestnut cake called “castagnaccio” , sweet polenta (thick maize porridge), ecc. .
In our proposal we try to avoid too well known products, while instead we will try to focus on those less famous but with features going beyond what you can easily find.
